Today marks one week from landing in the USA. It’s been pretty good, mostly trying to get settled in again. Going from west to east to west is difficult on sleep patterns, but I am getting better at adjustment. Loving the travel so wouldn’t change a thing. Clothing project Everything has arrived for the clothing project, namely the labels, updated patterns and the material. The material is amazing: a super light merino wool. »
After building out a rough version of an iOS app to showcase the functionality, I’ve put a lot of thought into the next steps to take. The immediate follow on: Fix the iOS app, make stable Integrate required functionality into the server for the above Write tests Documentation This can be written over the course of a few weeks and is also ongoing. In the greater scheme, the project should have some real world use. »
And so another weekly cycle finishes. The past seven days or so have been productive, and I now sit ready to take on the USA for six months. Banking project I finally got some work done on the banking project. I pushed the project live onto a publicly accessible server, and finished implementing the iOS app. The app now sits at functional prototype stage, which is awesome. I learned a fair amount implementing the table lists, tabs and error handling. »

The past week has been really relaxed, mainly due to the New Years period and being away. A few days of much needed downtime proved to be rejuvenating, especially being in the mountains. Pre-NY downtime In all honesty, I don’t quite remember doing anything particular last week Wednesday and Thursday during the day. I think it was a mixture of some reading, and watching loads of anime using the service I built. »
This past week has been pretty busy, but more centered around relaxing than work. It’s a nice change to have some proper downtime and see some friends. Joburg social A good friend of mine Chris came down to Joburg to spend some family time, so we headed off to Parkhurst for some great dinner at The Wolfpack. They serve an incredible vegan burger, and the food and atmosphere was great. »

The past week has been pretty busy. I’m back in South Africa after two months of being in the UK and the USA, and it feels good. There really is no place like this on earth. The travel here was less than ideal, in which I was making my way from the US to South Africa over a 30 hour stretch. I didn’t sleep for 24 hours, and the jet lag hit me really hard. »

I mentioned in my last post the two pieces of functionality left outstanding before a fully fledged client could be implemented, this functionality was: Listing of accounts Deposits Listing accounts The listing of accounts is open for now: any user can retreive the full list of users on the system This will help the bank market flourish, and the functionality will be scope limited after testing. »

Banking infrastructure I’ve made great progress on the banking infrastructure project that I am building out, but haven’t had a chance to touch it again. Now that there is enough functionality done to serve as a showcase, I began work on the iOS app. »
